The boy who had an endless number of birthday partiesEating, Friends, Partying, Sappy, School Comments Off on The boy who had an endless number of birthday partiesBack from NH and back to school (and work). A few days after getting back from NH, Kate and I brought cupcakes to Noah’s school to celebrate Noah’s birthday with his class. Ms. Yelena had each of his friends tell him what they hope he gets for his birthday. Leo. Alex. After the birthday party the kids all “moved up” to the next classroom where they would be starting Pre-kindergarten. Ms. Ella won’t be moving up with the kids. She’s helped out in Noah’s classes for the last two years. It got emotional.

Last week I was a chaperone for Noah’s class trip to the Prospect Park Zoo. Before we left, Ms. Yelena briefed the kids on how they should act. A surfeit of kids making faces into my phone. A muster of kids on the bus. A rafter of kids looking at something, I don’t remember. A cartload of kids look at a congress of Hamadryas Baboons. A romp of kids try to destroying bird eggs. A rookery of kids drawing. Bat anatomy (a group of bats is called a colony, boring). A shoal of fish getting harassed by a skulk of kids. Sea lion feeding. Tseday’s sister. I don’t need a reason. Then the rain started. A cackle of kids eating lunch a shrewdness of adults hoped the rain would let up. Noah C. The rain didn’t let up. Downpour. It was a fun/wet bus ride back to school.

They really teach you how to live at Noah’s school. Every week it feels like there’s some kind of party. Some reason to eat dessert and dance around. I’m doing it all wrong, at least the next generation is learning to do it right. Here are some photos from the “moving up” (i.e. “graduation”) party at Noah’s school two weeks ago. They started things off with a singing and signing demonstration. Rappers. The next number. Diplomas. A little wobble for the crowd. Mia. Aaron and Savannah. Noah with Clio. Leo, Laila, and Zion. Ms. Yelena. Later, at home, Noah played on my computer while we packed for Cape Cod.
